This movie and the one that came before it (Prometheus) have been blasted by fans, passionately blasted. I personally think that is ridiculous. From what I can tell, most critics don't like that these two films have deviated from the original Alien plot thread of having a woman in a tank top fight scary aliens. While I enjoyed those films, I'm glad to see Scott explore new territory with these latest installments. Namely expanding the lore of the Alien world he's created, even going as far as to subtlety tie it into the Blade Runner universe. There may be "tired tropes" here and "ignorant crew members" but there is also some really great story telling and mythology building going on. In short, there's more here than just burning aliens with flame throwers and one line quips. Watch these with an open mind (you'll have to suspend your disbelief, just like any other scifi movie) and sit back and enjoy the history Scott is building into this universe. I thought they were both great. I know this is heresy to many, but I enjoyed them as much as the original Alien film and much, much more than the Alien sequels of the 90's and early 2000's. Ignore the complainers and give them a shot.

I got it and watched it while I was waiting for a physical therapy to come get me that day. It’s great show.

In love with the alien lore, and this movie definitely makes you wonder about the universe. Stunning visuals, great story line.

Let me start by saying that I'm not a big "Alien" diehard. I appreciate a good story more than anything. That being said, this movie attempted to do just that. It isn't a stand alone obviously and was intended to give back story to some already great films. The age old question, "Where did we come from and why?" is not only applied to the humanoids in the film but to the aliens as well. I get tired of and begin to expect aliens jumping, hissing, drooling and terrifying the characters. It was nice to take some time to let my brain speculate and tie up some ends that were loose or frayed. Could the technical side of the film have been tighter, yes. But this is a massive undertaking by some very talented people and deserves a seat at the table. Loved Fassbender in his role. Hated the science...really, just 2000! Forget the aliens, we are going to die from a lack of genetic diversity. Which brings David's point home all the more.

After viewing Promethius (another Ridley Scott film and the prequel to this movie), I was anxious to see "Alien Covenant". It was a bit of a letdown, especially for Ridley Scott. The movie just didn't seem to flow and the characters weren't well developed. I was also surprised at the amount of profanity throughout the movie which really was out of place for supposed professional scientists and astronauts.I had heard that Scott was intending to produce yet another sequel after this movie, but after it did so poorly at the box office, I think that this idea was put on the back burner.Still, it was a fairly decent movie, but not the best example of Ridley Scott's work. Scott's movies have the incredible way of immersing the viewer into the story because the storyline and characters are so well-developed. This movie was a bit disappointing, but if you can view it for free, it's an OK story.

Im guessing because Prime ‘Video’ is a free add on to the membership and they are viewing it as an expense not an income item. If you watch this in the evening or during any busy times you will pause every few minutes due to s bandwidth issues. Watching 3 minutes and pausing about 1-2 minutes throughout the movie will work your nerves like nothing else will. But hey, watching it at 3 am it works just fine!

Yes, it's a very different film than the previous entries of the series, with themes that would seem, at first, out of place in the Alien franchise. But if you consider some of the novels and graphic novels set in the expanded universe, Alien: Covenant would not seem that odd.As in Prometheus, there are some hasty/stupid decisions by the crew of the Covenant, and the writing can be just a bit "off" in some places, but it's much improved over the previous installment. Overall I thought it was a good film, and worthy of it's place in the series. And it bridges more of the gap in the story between the prequels and the original Scott film satisfactorily.Visually, as par for the franchise, the movie is striking. The set pieces and creature designs are very well done. And the tension and sense of dread doesn't let up throughout the film.Bottom line: If you enjoy the Alien series and care about how all the events tie together, watch it. If you're interested in the Ancient Astronaut motif, like tense sci-fi horror, and can appreciate a little philosophy mixed in, watch it. You'll find that the reviews and aggregate scores don't tell the whole of it.
