These releases always look better with a slip cover and the Mubi releases don't disappoint. This is a fantastic film as well.

This movie comes with a lot of hype. I do not believe it to lives up to the hype. It is not a great movie. But, it is a nice little movie with heart and great acting.

I've seen most of Win Wenders' movies, and I rate this his best. The story, the characters he created and the directing are all first rate. The protagonist leads a modest, frugal life but shows that doesn't prevent his from finding self-respect, self-worth and happiness.

We take so much for granted. This movie delves into how you can see the world differently and be happy, even if you clean toilets for a living.

It has been years since I have seen a movie that has moved me and stayed with me like this one has. I watched it days ago and I can’t stop thinking about it.I may NEVER stop thinking about it. And I hope I don't.Here is the simple description of this film:Hirayama feels content with his life as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo. Outside of his structured routine, he cherishes music on cassette tapes, reads books and takes photos. Through unexpected encounters, he reflects on finding beauty in the world.Director Wim Wenders has created a masterpiece here. And actor Koji Yakusho is nothing short of brilliant in this film. His simplicity and elegance and the way he performs with emotional depth that is inviting and warm is so powerful.I have often said there is no such thing as a perfect film. This may be as close as it's ever going to get.I realize I am gushing. I don't care.Hirayama's life is simple, ritualistic, and beautiful. He does his work with care, excellence, and pride. He is not without ambition. It’s just that his ambitions lie in places other than acquiring wealth and power and influence. Each night his dreams are peaceful images of his day and the people he has encountered. He finds true joy and satisfaction in the simple pleasures that fill his days.A job well done.Trees and the ways they dance in the wind and light.A good book. The little bonsai trees he tends in his home.Music.Sunshine, rain, the river, riding his bike.Every day when he emerges from his home he looks up at the sky with a face full of gratitude and takes deep and contended beath. It makes you feel peaceful. It’s a beautiful and poetic life. And as the film reveals in a subtle way (everything about this film is subtle) it is not a life that was easily built. If you haven’t seen this movie. Do yourself a favor and watch it. If you have Hulu, it is streaming there. But be warned, you might find yourself, as I have, envying Hirayama’s Perfect Days.
